Updated: 'Grease' star Jeff Conaway dies, aged 60

Grease actor Jeff Conaway has died at the age of 60.

Conaway was rushed to hospital almost two weeks ago when he was found unconscious due to a suspected overdose, and later fell into a coma.

According to E! News, Conaway's family made the decision to turn off his life support machine after doctors admitted that there was nothing they could do to revive him.

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Conaway confirmed that the actor was still showing no signs of improvement, and that he was "still unconscious, ventilated, and intubated".

Conaway was best known for his role as John Travolta's wingman Kenickie in the 1978 musical Grease, but also received acclaim for starring on the '8os sitcom Taxi.

Travolta paid tribute to his co-star by saying: "Jeff Conaway was a wonderful and decent man, and we will miss him. My heartfelt thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this very difficult time."

Conaway's representative Phil Brock also expressed his sorrow at the actor's passing, telling People: "We loved Jeff as a person. We respect him. We know his personal struggles are all over. He was a kind, gentle soul who loved to perform, from small theatre to Broadway."

The actor suffered from substance abuse problems for much of his life, and Conaway's attempts to treat his addictions were charted on the VH1 reality series Celebrity Rehab.
