Jennifer Hudson 'struggling' to secure book deal

By
Singer Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson is struggling to ink a deal to write her own weight loss book, it has been reported.

The Academy Award-winning actress has lost nearly 80 pounds since becoming a Weight Watchers spokesperson in 2010 and it is now believed that she would like to share stories of her dieting success in a new memoir.

However, publishers have so far reacted ambivalently to the project because the star is seeking a $1m (£607,201) writing fee, a source told the New York Post's Page Six.

Hudson's reluctance to open up about the 2008 killing of her mother Darnell Donnerson, young nephew Julian King and brother Jason by her brother-in-law William Balfour is apparently another sticking point in signing with a publisher.

"Her book about her diet is really appealing and wonderful. But if you spend a lot of money on the book deal, you want it to sell," a publishing insider told the newspaper. "With no talk of her family, we didn't think it was worth it."

Hudson's publicist offered no comment other than to describe the details as "accurate".

Winnie, in which Hudson will star as South African activist Winnie Mandela, will mark the actress's return to the big screen.
