Ant & Dec have joked that they are in danger of losing their jobs as Britain's Got Talent hosts in the wake of Cheryl Cole's alleged exit from The X Factor USA.

Cole was reportedly axed from the series last week over several concerns, one of which is believed to be the American audience's difficulty in understanding her thick Geordie accent.

Presenting team Ant & Dec, both Geordies themselves, have now said that they should probably be concerned that Simon Cowell may give them the axe as well.

"It would be foolish for us not to be worried," Dec joked to The Sun. "We're going to have to speak reeaally sloowwwly to make sure he can understand us."

Ant & Dec went on to recall their own attempt to crack the US in 2007 with the game show Wanna Bet?.

Dec said: "A big deal was made of the accent thing when we went over there. But we encountered very few problems."

Ant & Dec also commented on Simon Cowell's impending return to Britain's Got Talent tonight as part of the show's live semi-final.

"We've all kinda missed him, haven't we?" Ant admitted. "He has a knack of saying exactly what everyone is really thinking. I'm gutted to say this because it will make his head even bigger."

Britain's Got Talent continues tonight on ITV1.
