The Manchester United and England striker suggested to TalkSport that the invasion of privacy is the 'worst part of being Wayne Rooney'.
Rooney said: "Obviously you have a lot of intrusion into your private life. Now I've got my son [Kai] there's a lot of intrusion into his as well. You can't control [it] - we tried to but..."
The footballer confirmed that he is still able to go to the pub or out for a meal with his family, but added: "I think the worst thing to ever come out is camera phones. They're so annoying. Obviously there's a lot of intrusion, really, but obviously being a footballer nowadays you need to expect that."
Rooney added: "Since I've come through at 16 I've never had one private holiday. There's always been someone from the airport who's told the press where I'm going, or someone from the hotel - I remember going round the South of France on a boat, and I had a boat full of press following our boat round."
The sportsman's wife Coleen said last October that she and her husband were "fine" following allegations that he had paid a prostitute for sex while his wife was pregnant with their son.
Rooney's Manchester United teammate Ryan Giggs was last week named in parliament by MP John Hemming as the player who took out an injunction regarding an alleged affair with Big Brother star Imogen Thomas.
