Alec Baldwin has insisted that acting is just like any other profession.

The 30 Rock star, who joined Twitter earlier this week, took to the social networking site on Thursday to express his feelings on his career.

"Acting is a job, in the end, like any job. It's an unusual one, but it's a job. Sometimes, a bit of art may fly in the window. Now and then," he wrote.

Baldwin also revealed that he sometimes allows characters he inhabits to get "under [his] skin" and finds the experience to be a discomforting one.

"Movie making is weird. Weird to spend hours essentially living other people's lives. 'Isn't that called acting?' How linear of you. Doesn't make it any less unusual or difficult at times," he explained.

"Some in my business would rather live on screen than in real life. The older I get, I want the opposite. Playing some parts can get under your skin. I become more like [30 Rock character] Jack every week, oddly enough."

Baldwin recently hinted that he may 'move on' from 30 Rock to "try something different".

He is currently filming Rock of Ages with an ensemble cast including Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film is tipped for release on June 1, 2012 in the US.
