Sarah Ferguson: 'Diana, Kate would be best friends'

Sarah Ferguson has said that the late Princess Diana and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, would have been great friends.

The Duchess of York told CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight that she is a "fan" of Prince William's new wife.

Asked how Diana would have felt on Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding day, Ferguson said: "Honestly, total pride, total pride. You know, she would - everybody did.

"They would have been best friends. I know she would have been so delighted, because she would have got her daughter.

"She always wanted to have a little girl and to share clothes and things. She would have had her daughter-in-law. It would have been wonderful."

Ferguson added of Kate: "I take my hat off to her. She's so serene. She glides like a swan. I'm a great fan.

"She's got a very good family. I love the look of her mum and dad. I don't know any of them, never met them. But they all look so together and solid."

Ferguson, who recently admitted that it was "so difficult" not to be invited to the royal wedding, also quipped that her balcony kiss with Prince Andrew when they wed in 1986 was better than Prince William and Kate's.
