Sting is to be awarded an honourary degree from Newcastle University.
He will receive his title today (Friday), becoming a Doctor of Music (DMus).
The 54-year-old grew up on Tyneside, and will be joined at the ceremony by six other people, who will also receive degrees from the institution.
Dr. John Hogan, the registrar at the University, said: "The seven individuals being honoured, with their many achievements, have contributed to the reputation of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the north-east as a thriving centre of creativity. The university is honoured that they have accepted our wish to celebrate them."
