Nader Sherif filed a lawsuit this week claiming that the Beaver star pressured him into investing $200,000 (£123,360) in Malaysian company Green Rubber after the pair met at a 2007 party.
Sherif alleged that Gibson - who he described as a "significant investor" in Green Rubber - promised to buy his shares should the company go under. However, Sherif insisted that Gibson did not deliver on the agreement when he tried to cash in his shares when he began to experience financial hardship.
TMZ reports that Sherif is suing for the $200,000 original investment as well as interest accrued.
Gibson's rep has not yet responded to calls for comment.
Gibson's ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva recently dropped her domestic violence lawsuit against the actor as part of her desire to "extend an olive branch" and restore peace for the sake of their 20-month-old daughter Lucia.
