Jennifer Lopez, Adele 'down drinks with Alan Carr'

Alan Carr was reportedly given a shock when celebrity friends surprised him in his dressing room to celebrate his birthday.

The comedian, who turned 35 on Tuesday, had finished recording an episode of Chatty Man with Jennifer Lopez and Jonathan Ross earlier this week, when he returned to his room for the party organised by his boyfriend Paul.

Adele, Gok Wan and Kelly Hoppen joined Ross, Lopez and other close friends for the celebration, according to The Mirror.

"Alan jumped out of his skin when all his guests screamed 'surprise' at him," a source told the paper. "But he was delighted and absolutely chuffed that they'd all gone to such an effort.

"Alan insisted everybody run back up to the studio and raid the mini-bar from the stage, which he uses to give guests a pretty disgusting or tacky drink."

The insider continued: "They all made the worst drinks they could and downed them as one. Even Jennifer got stuck into the 'cheeky vimto'."

American Idol judge Lopez, who performed at the Capital FM Summertime Ball in Wembley Stadium over the weekend, also treated Carr to a rendition of 'Happy Birthday'.

"Alan was in hysterics - he couldn't believe J.Lo was singing just for him," the source added. "Everyone whooped and screamed as she finished. J.Lo looked a little bewildered by proceedings, but giggled along gamely nonetheless."

Alan Carr: Chatty Man kicks off its sixth series in a new Friday night timeslot, tomorrow at 10pm on Channel 4.
