Emma Roberts: 'Family didn't help my career'

Emma Roberts has slammed suggestions that her famous family members are responsible for her own success.

The Scream 4 actress insisted that being the daughter of Eric Roberts and the niece of Julia Roberts had no effect on her own career, which she insists that she worked hard to establish.

"I think [talk of nepotism] is so ridiculous considering it's obviously not true... I've auditioned for so many things and never gotten the part," the 20-year-old explained to PopEater.

"Also it's like, you know, maybe someone can get you one part but they can't really get you ten parts. I would actually have more respect for them if they said it to my face, then I would probably not say anything back."

Roberts confessed that she tries to avoid reading things written about her as she finds it hard not to get upset by how she comes across.

"I don't read them anymore but obviously you know that they're there. I can't let it bother me because, for me, anyone hiding behind a computer is kind of irrelevant," she said.

Roberts has previously revealed that she would love to take on a role which requires her to sing in the future.
