Georgie Thompson has spoken for the first time about her break-up with Declan Donnelly, describing it as "painful".

The pair separated in April, two years after becoming an item in January 2009.

The Sky Sports presenter told The Mirror that although the split has been "tough", she remains good friends with Donnelly.

She said: "At the moment, the party line is that we're really good friends and really support each other. But it's been tough, it's really tough.

"It's a really hard thing to live out a painful break-up when you're in the public eye. It hurts but we have to be grown-up."

When asked if she would ever get back together with the presenter, she responded: "I don't know. Who knows?

"At the moment, my focus is on work. To be honest, the reality is we're both grown-ups, and trying to be pretty mature about the whole thing."

A friend of Thompson's had recently said that she was in "total shock" following the break-up.

Declan Donnelly was teased by Simon Cowell over the split while promoting upcoming game show Red or Black?.
