According to The AP, Broderick has been cast in a rom-com musical called Nice Work If You Can Get It, which will be inspired by the music of George and Ira Gershwin.
The production will be both choreographed and directed by Kathleen Marshall, who recently received a Tony Award for her Broadway revival of Anything Goes.
The actor's last major Broadway performance was in 2004 for The Producers, and Broderick has also starred in productions including Brighton Beach Memoirs and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
Broderick was last seen in the 2009 drama Wonderful World but is best known for his roles in the eighties classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and in the musical and 2005 film version of The Producers.
Later this year, Broderick will appear opposite Ben Stiller, Casey Affleck and Eddie Murphy in the ensemble action comedy Tower Heist.
