The Death At A Funeral star made his Broadway debut in Stephen Guirgis's The Mother... In The Hat back in April, but was shocked to discover that he would need to invest time in the show's script.
He recalled on Friday's edition of The View: "I assumed at some point, and this is how ignorant I am, that there would be cue cards on Broadway.
"I thought that [the producers] were just hiding them from me for now, but surely when we get to opening night there would be a teleprompter or something. The words would be somewhere for me to read. [I mess up my lines] all the time!"
Despite his initial confusion about the workings of the show, Rock went on to receive high praise from his Hat co-star Annabella Sciorra.
"Chris is great. Chris is really disciplined," she said. "Chris really really wanted to do a play. I think [the show] really struck him because it was urban and current."
Rock admitted in March that he took the role in order to stay close to his family.
