The former Malcolm in the Middle star announced his intention to run for office on Twitter earlier this weekend.
"I'm going to be a politician," Muniz tweeted. "I'm running for public office.
"I will be announcing soon," the 25-year-old added, suggesting 2016 as a possible date for his future political endeavour.
The actor has released no further details about his intentions, and it is unknown where or in what office he intends to run.
Back in 2008 Muniz announced his intention to put his acting career on hold in order to pursue a career as a racing driver.
The former child star made headlines earlier this year when police were called to his residence following a heated argument with his girlfriend.
