In an interview with Vogue, the Straw Dogs actor stated that he was anxious to agree to do a TV show because he did not want to be tied down to the same character.
"I was nervous about doing a TV series, because I wasn't sure I wanted to play the same character over and over," Skarsgård said.
However, the 34-year-old does not regret his decision, claiming that he particularly enjoyed shooting the coming season of True Blood given that his character loses his memory.
"But this season is really fun," Skarsgård said. "Eric gets amnesia and becomes like a big child."
In early June, Skarsgård revealed that he was mocked as a child for wearing cowboy boots to school, admitting that he was reduced to tears by his Swedish classmates for the fashion faux pas.
The actor previously said that he needs distance from the HBO series, stating that he does not want to be typecast.
True Blood returns June 26 at 9pm on HBO.
