The actress, who is best known for her roles in Alice in Wonderland and Jane Eyre, said that she loves returning to the family home in Canberra because she can completely switch off and escape from Hollywood.
Wasikowska told The Daily Telegraph: "I don't have a place of my own yet. When I'm not working I still go back home to Canberra where I live with my family. It's nice to be able to go home and just be with my family and decompress."
The 22-year-old star is currently preparing to film Stoker with Nicole Kidman, A View From The Bridge with Sam Neill and an unnamed Jim Jarmusch movie with Tilda Swinton. She also said that she is very excited about the latter role because she is a "huge Jarmusch fan" and she "got along really well" with him when they met.
Wasikowska recently described her latest character Jane Eyre as a "remarkable" and "modern" woman. She also revealed that she and co-star Michael Fassbender bonded easily on set, saying: "We got on really well from the beginning so it was kind of easy to go from there. The most important thing when you have a relationship that has to be that intense in a film, it's 90% being able to get along well and have fun."
Jane Eyre is now playing in the US and opens on September 9 in the UK.
