Families of Flight 93, the non-profit organisation formed to commemorate the heroes of United Flight 93 which crashed on September 11, 2001, has received over $1m from Universal Pictures.

The donation came after a promise from Universal that 10% of the first three days box office takings would be given to the organisation.

Hamilton Peterson, President of Families for Flight 93 said, "We are extremely grateful for Universal Pictures' generous donation"

He added, "Universal's contribution, along with other private and federal funds will help ensure our efforts to permanently honour the 40 heroes of Flight 93."

The money will go towards further efforts for national memorial.
