The 'Show Me the Way' singer filed for divorce in LA Superior Court on Tuesday, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause of the break-up.
Frampton has asked that his estranged wife receive physical custody of their daughter Mia, but also requested the right to have regular visits with the 15-year-old, People reports.
The musician also appealed for legal costs to be shared between himself and his spouse.
Frampton had previously been married to Mary Lovett from 1971 to 1973 and later to Barbara Gold prior to his relationship with Christina.
The singer is most famous for notching up a string of hits in the 1970s such as 'Baby I Love Your Way', 'Do You Feel Like We Do' and 'I'm In You'.
His live LP Frampton Comes Alive achieved multi-platinum status in the US and reached the Top 10 of the UK album charts.
Frampton most recently collaborated with William Shatner on the actor's latest record Searching for Major Tom.
