Michael J Fox hopes to see a cure for Parkinson's disease within his lifetime.
The disease does not directly cause death but is a lifelong condition for the sufferer.
Fox, who was diagnosed in 1991, said: "Sometimes people say that someone died of Parkinson's, it is actually a misstatement. You can't die of Parkinson's, but you will invariably die with Parkinson's.
"If you have Parkinson's, it is not curable. Well, I think this will be the first generation of people who could have Parkinson's that will not die with it."
