Victoria Beckham has reportedly told Cheryl Cole that she should "follow her heart" and reunite with her ex-husband Ashley Cole.

According to Closer, Beckham has been in contact with Cheryl since the Girls Aloud singer was axed from The X Factor USA.

"After Cheryl told Victoria that she wanted to give it another go with Ashley and she couldn't go on without him, Posh said, 'Stand by your man! You've got to follow your heart'," a source claimed.

"Victoria was very sympathetic when Cheryl admitted she was terrified that Ashley would hurt her again.

"Some of Cheryl's friends have been furious with her, but Victoria was more understanding... Cheryl was relieved that Victoria didn't judge her and just offered positive advice."

Another supposed insider added to the magazine: "No-one's ever seen Cheryl so vulnerable before - her whole world fell apart the day she lost the US job. She's always struggled with self-esteem issues, but this floored her.

"Ashley was there to pick up the pieces, and he was her saviour those first few weeks, but she's really just too emotional for such a big decision now.

"Cheryl has been advised to draw a line under her relationship with Ashley, but it seems she's made her mind up that he's the one for her."

In 2010, Beckham was reported to have expressed "so much sympathy" for Cheryl following her then-husband Ashley's alleged infidelity.

Earlier that year, Cheryl admitted that she had regretted her previous criticism of the ex-Spice Girl.
