Cheryl Cole joins Twitter to set record straight

Cheryl Cole has joined Twitter, amassing more than 25,000 followers without publishing a single tweet.

Her profile on the social networking site, verified as @cherylcole, reads: "dont believe everything you read....except what you read here! news and updates direct from Cheryl and her team. (sic)"

Cole's presence on Twitter follows her first public appearance since her axe from The X Factor USA.

The 'Promise This' singer celebrated her 28th birthday last night with a party at the Sanderson Hotel in London's Fitzrovia, showing off her new blonde hairdo and a Stella McCartney dress.

Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh attended the bash, while manager will.i.am is rumoured to have arrived late due to his performance at Hyde Park's Wireless Festival with The Black Eyed Peas.

Nadine Coyle did not attend, but tweeted her best wishes to her Girls Aloud bandmate.
