Nick Lachey, Vanessa Minnillo want kids straight away

Nick Lachey has confirmed that he and fiancée Vanessa Minnillo plan to start a family soon after they wed this summer.

The 37-year-old singer said that his age is one of the main factors in wanting to rush having a family, and claimed both he and Minnillo are keen to become parents as soon as possible.

"We definitely want to do it together and do it sooner rather than later," Lachey told People recently. "I'll be 38 this year, so it's one of those things that I'm certainly behind the eight-ball on.

"Not that getting married was the means to an end to have kids, but it certainly was the next step in the process that leads us to ultimately having a great family together."

It was recently confirmed that the couple's wedding will be televised as part of a TLC special called Nick and Vanessa's Dream Wedding.

Lachey said that it felt like a natural decision to involve their fans with the wedding in that way, but warned that it will be very different to the MTV reality series Newlyweds, which followed his first marriage to Jessica Simpson.

"This is very different than doing a reality series, it's a one-off special."

Lachey previously hinted he was keen to start a family with Minnillo soon, after admitting that he was becoming more aware of the pressure to have children.
