The Mean Girls actress was released from a 35-day house arrest sentence on Wednesday, which was handed to her in May after she pleaded no contest to the alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace.
Lohan celebrated the completion of her sentence and her subsequent 25th birthday by partying with friends and family in California, where she will complete her forthcoming 480 hours of community service for probation violation.
"She opted to stay in California instead of coming to New York because she has community service and wanted to concentrate on that," Michael told The New York Post.
"She's doing really, really, really well... We're taking it moment by moment... It's just nice that she's off her home arrest and has the opportunity to pursue her career finally."
Michael recently claimed that his troubled relationship with Lindsay has become "a hell of a lot better" in recent times.
