The two boys accompanied the actor on the set of World War Z, the zombie film that Pitt is both starring in and producing, according to Us Weekly.
"Brad was very cheerful and happy to have his kids on set," a source said. "When Brad finished the scene, he took to the boys to his trailer and looked thrilled to see them. [While walking] he didn't hold their hands - I think he likes to treat them like big boys!"
Maddox and Pax watched their father, who is playing a UN researcher in the big-screen adaptation of Max Brooks's best-selling novel, shoot a scene in which he ran away from a horde of zombies.
In addition to Pitt, World War Z will feature The Killing's Mireille Enos, Adjustment Bureau star Anthony Mackie and The Pacific's James Badge Dale.
Lost star Matthew Fox was said to have joined the cast of World War Z in mid-June, but he backed out of the zombie film last week due to his commitments to I, Alex Cross.
World War Z is scheduled to be released in 2012.
