Jennifer Aniston has said that her split from Brad Pitt helped her relate to her role in The Break-Up.

Aniston and Pitt separated following five years of marriage in 2005. The Break-Up, which co-starred Vince Vaughn, was released the following year.

During an appearance on Inside The Actor's Studio with James Lipton, the star was asked what attracted her to The Break-Up, which revolves around a couple who end their relationship but still live together.

"It was just a beautiful, human story about a couple breaking up," she replied, before laughing: "I was slightly familiar on the topic and the issue so I honestly felt like what a great way to exorcise some of that."

Lipton then asked if her personal experience had made the process "easier or harder", to which she said: "Easier, oddly. I enjoyed it. You would think otherwise. Even the producers were like, 'I don't know if we should ask you to do this but I said, 'Why not? Turn the page and let's move on'."

Aniston is currently promoting her new movie Horrible Bosses, which revolves around three friends who join together in a bid to kill their bosses.

Inside The Actor's Studio with Jennifer Aniston premieres Monday, July 11 at 8pm ET/PT on Bravo.
