The QI host was stunned to see some of Hollywood's elite 'starstruck' by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at a BAFTA party in Los Angeles last night, and admitted to "taking advantage" of their post-wedding popularity.
"There's a special lustre [about William and Kate] that you just can't recreate," he told the BBC. "If they managed to reproduce Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable and they came in the room at one end and the Cambridges came in at the other, all of Hollywood would be staring at the Cambridges.
"They have a very particular charisma at the moment and that's something that is wonderful to take advantage of if you're British."
However, Fry shared his hope that Prince William had allowed himself to become a little overwhelmed by some of the legendary revellers at the event.
"[Prince William] had the pleasure of sitting opposite Barbra Streisand and he'd be a sorry figure indeed if he were not impressed by that.
"But then if you're British you're struck by Barbra Streisand, if you're American you're really struck by a member of the Royal Family. We have something we can give them that no other nation on earth can give."
Prince William and Kate attended the bash as part of their summer tour of California, which they began yesterday following a jaunt around Canada.
