The actress told InStyle that she is aware of what works for her body and avoids styles which might be unflattering or make her look older.
Holmes explained: "I'm not afraid to try a new designer or do something trendy, but it has to look right on my body. You don't want to look like a fashion victim!"
Asked which styles in particular she avoids, the Kennedys star responded: "Certain colours don't work on me; yellow isn't my friend. I don't like big, pouffy sleeves. And some dresses, like if it has a big bow and skirt, are too old-ladyish on me. If I can wear it when I'm 80 I'm going to wait."
Holmes recently revealed that she would love to dress stars such as Adele and Kate Middleton and has described Middleton's fashion choices as "incredible".
The Batman Begins actress has also claimed that she allows her 5-year-old daughter Suri to act as her personal stylist and choose the clothes she wears.
