Daniel Baldwin files for divorce from wife

Daniel Baldwin has filed for divorce from his wife of four years.

The 50-year-old, who is brother to 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin, revealed that he has decided to divorce his wife Joanne Smith-Baldwin, a former British model, just one day after being granted a temporary restraining order against her, TMZ reports.

"Due to recent events in our home and for the safety of my children and myself, I have made this decision," Baldwin said.

He went on to cite alcohol and drugs as the reason for his decision.

"I have had my share of problems with drugs and alcohol many years ago and know first hand how difficult a position she is in," Baldwin said.

Baldwin and Smith married in 2007. They have two daughters together, Avis Ann and Finley Rae Martineau.

The actor starred on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2009 and was the second contestant to be voted off the show.

In March, Baldwin claimed that his friend Charlie Sheen must take his sobriety seriously in order to avoid a tragedy, saying that he did not trust the validity of the drug tests that the former Two and a Half Men star was taking at the time.
