Derryn Hinch has experienced complications from his recent liver transplant.

The Australian radio personality, who received a new organ last week after his liver cancer returned, will undergo another medical procedure after doctors discovered a blockage in his bile duct.

Austin Hospital spokesperson Taryn Sheehy told the Herald Sun: "Yesterday he was very close to going home. That was only pending blood tests and the blood tests came back yesterday indicating that bile is not draining from the liver, so they need to manage that. It's certainly not an emergency. It's a common issue to arise for liver transplant patients."

Sheehy said that the procedure, which is called an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, involves putting a camera into Hinch's stomach to check for blockages. She also said that the star was recovering well and is in good spirits.

Hinch wrote on his Twitter page yesterday: "Reality check. Post-transplant recovery Dream Run halted. Tubes back in. More surgery this morning. Was within one hour of going home."

After his transplant, Hinch went on air to tell his fans how "grateful" and "honoured" he felt that he had got a second chance at life.
