Kevin Bacon 'not involved in fatal car crash'

Kevin Bacon has not died in a traffic accident, contrary to reports.

Australian police officials reassured the Footloose actor's fans that he is alive and well after rumours surfaced that he had been involved in a fatal car crash near Ipswich in Queensland while on holiday.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told the Courier-Mail: "We have no idea how the rumour started but my colleague had lots of calls overnight. We checked and thankfully there were no Kevin Bacons injured or deceased overnight."

They have now logged a "mythbuster" message on their Twitter feed confirming that the rumour is false to alert "all the Kevin Bacon fans". Bacon is currently believed to be shooting a film in Atlanta.

In 2009, rumours surfaced that Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum had died after falling off a cliff in New Zealand. His representative later confirmed that he was "fine and in Los Angeles".

Natalie Portman, George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Harrison Ford, Rick Astley and Bruce Willis are among the other stars to have been targeted by similar hoaxes.
