Cynthia Nixon joins 'Wit' on Broadway

The Sex and the City actress will take on the lead role of a cancer-stricken poetry professor who undergoes experimental treatment for the illness in the Margaret Edison-penned production beginning next year.
The limited engagement will mark Nixon's return to Broadway, where she previously earned a Tony Award for her work in 2006's Rabbit Hole as well as a nomination for Indiscretions in 1995.
Nixon's role in Wit has previously been played by Emma Thompson and Kathleen Chalfant.
Wit will open for previews at the Manhattan Theatre Club on January 5, 2012 with an official opening to follow on January 26, 2012. Tickets go on sale on September 6, 2011.
Nixon recently joined the Pillars of the Earth follow-up World Without End alongside Miranda Richardson.
Nixon recently guest starred on an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
