Ono, who was born in Tokyo, arrived in Japan on Friday to accept an award for her charity work and to encourage other celebrities to visit the country.
"I have so many incredible feelings about this whole situation," she told The AP. "I really wanted to hold them, hug them and tell them, 'Listen, we are all together'."
Ono further explained that even though she lives in New York City, she feels a strong connection to those who are suffering in her homeland.
More than 15,000 people have been reported as dead since the 9.0 magnitude quake struck Japan on March 11.
The musician previously commented that she found devastation suffered by the people of Japan to be truly shocking.
Lady GaGa, Justin Bieber and the Black Eyed Peas have all called on their fans to donate to Japanese relief efforts.
