The Dawson's Creek actor was admitted to a medical facility in Santa Monica, California after falling victim to an as-yet-unknown ailment on Thursday.
The 33-year-old was discharged shortly afterwards and was pictured by TMZ casually leaving the hospital with girlfriend Diane Kruger.
Representatives for Jackson insisted after the incident that the star had not suffered an asthma attack, as previously rumoured.
"Josh had an allergic reaction," a spokesperson said. "[He] is perfectly fine."
Jackson recently confessed to being uncertain of his Fringe future after filming of the show's fourth season began without him.
However, his return to the Fox sci-fi has previously been confirmed by his co-star Anna Torv and executive producers Jeff Pinkner and Joel Wyman.
