The Social Network star confessed that he hopes that actor Woody Harrelson's character in Friends with Benefits succeeds in breaking out of the stereotype of the 'gay friend'.
"I want to say that once we came up with the idea that Woody's character would be gay, it was really important to me that we use that as an opportunity to break anything that is a stereotype," Timberlake told The Advocate.
He continued: "Stereotypes are offensive to our culture. I'm a straight male who has male friends who are gay. We don't have any problem communicating. We don't [have] any problem being two guy friends regardless of our differences in sexual orientation."
Timberlake recently described his upcoming role in the sci-fi film In Time as his first leading role, adding that he is thrilled to be headlining the movie.
The 30-year-old entertainer has claimed that he is no expert in love, saying that he has had his fair share of trouble with romance.
Timberlake split from longtime girlfriend Jessica Biel in March.
