Sheryl Crow to auction Mercedes for Missouri tornado victims

Sheryl Crow will auction her vintage 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster to raise funds for victims of the recent Missouri tornado.

Money generated from Gooding & Co's sale will help rebuild several schools in Joplin, where a storm killed 158 people and caused significant damage in May.

Missouri native Crow said of her donation: "After the tornado in Joplin I was moved to help rebuild a city so close to where I grew up in Missouri. My hope is that the auction of my 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster will bring in funds to help rebuild the schools in the area."

Crow's car is expected to fetch between $50,000 (£30,485) and $80,000 (£48,825) when it goes under the hammer on August 21.

Country singer LeAnn Rimes held a benefit concert to raise funds for the people of Joplin in June, while Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie contributed $500,000 (£308,000) to the cause.

Crow recently donated proceeds from her concert at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo event to a horse charity.
