The How I Met Your Mother actor and Burtka revealed that they had secretly become engaged last month following the New York State government's passage of the Marriage Equality Act, allowing gays and lesbians to legally wed.
Appearing on Watch What Happens Live on Monday, Harris said that he was simply happy that the legislation had passed to give gay couples the option of marriage.
"We're certainly not planning a wedding," Harris said. "But we think it's amazing that eight hundred and some odd people got married yesterday."
Harris previously celebrated the passage of the Marriage Equality Act via his Twitter page, writing: "It Passed! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night!"
Harris and Burtka became parents to surrogate-born twins Harper and Gideon in October 2010.
