The U2 rocker attended a conference in Minneapolis, home to the largest population of Somali immigrants in the US, over the weekend to highlight the plight of millions suffering drought and lack of food in the Horn of Africa.
Bono said that he and his ONE charity organisation are ready to help in any way possible, but insisted that the most decisive action must come from Somalis themselves.
"The crisis in the Horn is going to be solved by Somalis taking control, taking charge. I'm here, and ONE is here, to listen and learn and to serve their efforts," Bono said.
Following the conference, Bono was joined by Somali rapper K'naan for a performance of Ben E King's 1961 hit 'Stand by Me'.
Bono's ONE campaign has called on world leaders to increase agricultural aid to the region in order to "empower African farmers".
U2 were in Minneapolis for a stop on their current world tour at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday, where Bono dedicated a performance of 'Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of' to the late Amy Winehouse.
