A 56-year-old female intruder reportedly entered Trebek's San Francisco hotel room at 2.30am on Wednesday and attempted to steal cash, personal items and a bracelet given to the presenter by his mother.
Trebek soon realised he was being burgled and gave chase as the alleged thief tried to hide the items behind an ice machine in the hallway.
As he ran after the woman, Trebek fell to the ground and snapped an Achilles tendon in one of his legs.
Police later apprehended the woman accused of stealing from Trebek and booked her on felony burglary and possession of stolen property, San Francisco's ABC 7 reports.
Some personal items were returned after the apparent burglar was arrested, but Trebek's money and bracelet haven't yet been found.
The Jeopardy presenter was able to fulfil his hosting duties late Wednesday at nearby Mountain View's National Geographic World Championship, but was forced to use crutches to move around the event's stage.
He is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his Achilles tendon on Friday.
