Blake Fielder-Civil is scapegoat for Amy Winehouse death, says mum

The mother of Amy Winehouse's ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil has stated that he feels "enormous grief and responsibility" for the singer's death.

48-year-old Georgette argued that the 'Back To Black' star's passing last weekend could have been avoided if all of her loved ones, and not just Fielder-Civil, had worked harder to protect her.

"I am not asking anyone to say 'poor Blake' - he made his choices and he has to live with them," she told the Daily Mail. "I'm not trying to defend his behaviour and I know him for what he is: he's an addict and he has done some terrible things.

"He feels enormous grief and responsibility for some of the things that have happened, as well he should. But I also think he's been made the fall guy for what happened to Amy, when the truth is, in fact, far more complicated.

"We all played our part in what happened to her. I have had to look deep into my heart and wonder if I could have helped, done things differently."

Georgette also hit back at allegations that Fielder-Civil sparked Winehouse's addictions by introducing her to a variety of illegal substances, declaring that her son was the only one who could "fix" the 27-year-old.

"Blake and Amy could have had a chance of happiness - I truly believe that. But only if their families were both behind them. I honestly believe that if they'd been given another chance, Amy might still be with us. Now we will never know.

"He has taken news of her death very badly," she said, elaborating on her fear that Fielder-Civil will commit suicide. "I'm worried sick. In many ways I feel like I have lost my son already. The reality is that we're all losers here - there's not a winner among us."

Winehouse and Fielder-Civil divorced in 2009 after two years of marriage.

He is currently serving a 32-month prison sentence for burglary.
