The Melancholia actress, who split with Borrell in July 2007 after a four-month fling, recalled being hurt by "bad guys" numerous times during her life.
"We all want the bad guy who doesn't give you what you want," she told September's edition of Elle. "I did a lot of sitting in my car, listening to sad music, crying over boys."
Dunst went on to describe her "special" romance with current partner Jason Boesel, the former drummer for LA indie rockers Rilo Kiley.
"[Jason's] not into partying and it works," she explained. "We have similar schedules: long periods of time off and periods of mad work. When I've finished work, I travel to be with him. It's special."
Dunst's list of ex-lovers also includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Justin Long and Josh Hartnett.
