Kelsey Grammer has revealed that he will eventually give up acting in favour of politics.

The Frasier veteran confessed that he looks forward to cultivating a career in the political arena as he grows older, saying that he is considering a bid for office in New York.

"I have had a great career and extraordinary opportunities," Grammer told the New York Post. "But I look at my political aspirations as that last piece of my life - where I hope to do something good for people and pay back a little."

Grammer went on to say that he has the perfect temperament for politics, claiming that actors and politicians are really not all that different.

"You certainly have to have a resilient ego," he said, before adding that a "narcissistic personality" is characteristic of both professions as well.

In February, the 56-year-old wed British flight attendant Kayte Walsh just weeks after finalising his divorce from Camille Grammer.

Grammer filed for the sole custody of his two children from his ex-wife in May, though the two reached a temporary child custody agreement last month.
