Lea Michele 'won't star in Funny Girl'

Lea Michele will not be starring in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl.

Although the Glee actress was rumoured to be a contender for the lead role in the revival of the classic musical starring Barbra Streisand, sources told E News that Six Feet Under's Lauren Ambrose is in talks for the part of Fanny Brice.

Ambrose currently stars on Torchwood: Miracle Day, playing PR guru Jilly Kitzinger.

The actress has claimed that her character on the Starz series has a "vicious and unbridled ambition".

Michele was reported to be leaving Glee at the end of the show's third season along with Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer, though showrunner Ryan Murphy appeared to suggest last week that all three will stay on for another year.

Funny Girl is expected to begin its run on Broadway in the spring of 2012 following a month-long run in Los Angeles.
