The Australian model, whose son Flynn weighed almost ten pounds at birth, told the Sydney Morning Herald that her grandmother advised her to stop eating so much or else she would have a large baby.
Kerr explained: "I put on 40 pounds, but I wasn't fazed. I was eating so much and my grandma was like, 'Love, you had better stop eating. You're going to make a big baby and I don't know how you are going to push it out'. I was like, 'Nan, it's fine', but she was the only one who knew."
Kerr, who recently returned to the catwalk, went on to say that she has no regrets about becoming a mother.
"It's just the best thing I have ever done", she said. "To have children was one of the main things I've wanted to do in my life, and it really was better than I ever thought it would be. I'm really lucky because I have a good-natured boy."
Speaking of her husband Orlando Bloom, Kerr said: "Orlando's amazing. He is so supportive and he is incredible with Flynn, and he is really helpful and very hands-on. He does it all.
"When I'm working, because I'm breastfeeding, I pump and then I put the bottles in the freezer and he feeds the baby, and that way he has a good bonding experience too."
