The country music star confirmed that all of her August gigs will have to be rescheduled so she can recover from the procedure.
Lynn apologised for the cancellations, saying: "I'm sad to have to cancel any shows for my fans, but they tell me I've just got to stay off this knee for a while."
She is expected to return to the stage on September 3 for a special show at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN.
Lynn has amassed more than two-dozen top ten albums on the US country charts since releasing her debut LP Loretta Lynn Sings in 1963.
Earlier this year, Lynn, Sheryl Crow and Miranda Lambert were nominated for a 'Collaborative Video of the Year Award' prize at the CMT Music Awards for their version of 'Coal Miner's Daughter'.
Lynn also recently appeared alongside the Judds and Reba McEntire in the Girls Night Out: Superstar Women Of Country television special.
