Lily Allen has spoken out on Twitter over the UK riots which have caused chaos in the country.

The 'Smile' singer, who has been known for her outspoken views on current affairs in the past, insisted that Britain must "take responsibility for future generations".

"The fact that there are so many young disaffected/ opportunistic/ robbers amongst us, would suggest there's a big problem," she wrote on the social networking site.

"People aren't born evil. Yes, these kids might be past the point of help, but we need to take responsibility for future generations."

Debating the issue with other members of the public, Allen responded to one disgruntled follower: "This is not the behaviour of happy, well rounded individuals, and that is what needs to be addressed."

The star announced that she will not be part of the Twitter-led riot cleanup operation.
