The Something Borrowed actress recently welcomed her first child with fiancé Matt Bellamy, a son called Bingham Hawn.
Hudson also has a 7-year-old son named Ryder from her previous marriage to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson.
In a new interview with Elle, Hudson praised her own parents' views on child rearing and said that she would give her kids room to discover things for themselves without negativity.
"My parents allowed my brother and I to have our freedom," she explained. "[We could] be ourselves and feel confident in our choices and make mistakes without too much judgement."
Hudson also revealed that she often discusses parenting issues with her mother Goldie Hawn, adding: "[My mum] never hands out unsolicited preachy words of wisdom."
Bellamy and Hudson confirmed their engagement in April 2011 following weeks of speculation.
