TV bosses told Kelly: ditch Scottishness
Published Friday, May 26 2006, 09:35 BST | By Dave West
Lorraine Kelly has recalled how television bosses once told her to loose her Scottish accent.
Speaking to Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, the presenter said her regional voice nearly put an early end to her career.
"I was told my accent was offensive because it was a strong Glasgow accent," she explained. "And I was told to have elocution lessons."
The star also revealed how much she likes a drink – and on one occasion turned up for breakfast TV work still a little drunk. "I went out for lunch that ended at 4.30am," she revealed. "Normally I'm very disciplined!"
