The Today co-host bought the four-storey property with her husband Brian Ross in 2003, and soon after began a large renovation with an unauthorised 18-foot-high penthouse.
The man was discovered on Saturday, with eight policemen sent to remove him at around 9am, according to the New York Post.
The publication found him at a nearby McDonald's restaurant, where he revealed that he did not know who owned the house.
"Ann Curry means crap to me!" he said. "The reason I lived there was because they chased me out of Central Park. I'll go back if someone says, 'Here's the key. Maintain the building'."
He added that he had actually spent most of last winter in the property. "I've been living there for about a year now," he said. "I'm not a drug addict; I just don't have a place to sleep."
The man was not arrested because he was found sleeping just outside the house. He has since been taken to a nearby shelter.
Ann Curry recently made her co-anchor debut on Today alongside Matt Lauer, following the departure of Meredith Vieira.
