Jessica Mauboy has revealed that she is launching her own fashion line.

The Australian singer and former Australian Idol champion, who is best known for hit singles such as 'Inescapable' and 'Like This', has teamed up with clothing label Kuku to design a range of "must have" party dresses.

Mauboy told the Courier-Mail: "I love fashion and have wanted to create my own range for some time now. However it was essential to make sure the brand I chose was the right fit. I love the Kuku label and can't wait to work with them and come up with a collection that girls will hopefully love."

The collection will eventually be available in Myer department stores and selected boutiques.

Mauboy, who has Aboriginal roots, recently rejected an offer to become the face of a new alcohol campaign. Her manager said: "She doesn't want to be preachy about it - she just felt that action speaks louder than words. She works with a lot of indigenous kids and knows the problems that alcohol has generated. She felt it just wasn't appropriate."

Earlier this year, Mauboy expressed her grief over the sudden death of her mentor, Sony executive Jay Dee Springbett. She said: "It's so sad. I just really miss him." Springbett and Mauboy were rumoured to be dating earlier this year but her representative described the reports as "absolute nonsense".
