Jessica Chastain: 'My family didn't believe I was acting'

Jessica Chastain has said that her family and friends were initially skeptical of her acting career.

Appearing on Conan, the Tree of Life actress revealed that while she has shot eleven films in the past four years, they are only beginning to be released, leaving her parents impatient to see their daughter's work.

Chastain said: "The Debt was made two years ago, and my first film I made four years ago with Al Pacino.

"My poor mother. I'm like, 'Oh, I'm in a movie with Al Pacino. I'm in a movie with Helen Mirren,' and she tells all her friends and they don't come out for a long time. My mum called me up finally. She was like, 'What are you doing in L.A. cause it's not acting!'"

Chastain is currently appearing in The Help alongside Emma Stone and will soon be seen in Wilde Salome and Texas Killing Fields.

Earlier this year, she admitted that she went into "panic attack mode" while on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in support of The Tree of Life.
